Our story starts with Frank Serpa, a kid from College St., Little Italy. Proud of his roots, Frank Serpa’s interest in cars began at a very young age, starting out truly at the bottom as a cleaner. He became an apprentice technician, earned an interprovincial mechanic's license and decided to work his way up. He then organized car deliveries in a Honda dealer, then became Sales Associate, earning a Sales Master title, and then Assistant Manager. In 1995, Serpa’s dream came true and he became a dealer principal, founding Richmond Hill’s Avante Mazda, one of the city’s Original Six Mazda dealerships. After successfully operating Avante for 20 years, winning great customer loyalty, in 2016 Serpa sold the location but kept the Avante name, which stood for excellence in customer service and will continue with other businesses. Then in 2012, he acquired Open Road BMW, the first BMW dealership to change hands in more than a decade, a very big event in the auto world. It was quite an accomplishment, even more so for someone with his background. Serpa BMW on Mulock Drive in Newmarket was launched and the Serpa family as represented by Stefano Serpa, second generation in the business, entered a new rarified world of high performance automobiles. As Frank Serpa will tell you, his heart lies in affordable vehicles and those that do a job, like a Jeep or RAM truck. That’s where he comes from and that is where he is again. The Serpa name also stands for community service, and the many charities we have supported. If there is someone in need where we operate, we are there. We intend to continue that practice in this community.

Stefano Serpa grew up with ‘oil in his blood.’ He started out washing cars, running around the Avante Mazda service area with a washer fluid bottle, demanding to top up cars. It was a kind of family tradition, starting at the bottom. He joined Serpa BMW after graduating from Brock University in June 2012 and can still remember the first he sold: a silver 328i, with black leather and a sport package. “My favorite part of the job is seeing the pure excitement from clients when they pick up their much desired machine. It feels good knowing I was a part of something memorable.” He looks forward to continuing the Respect Trust Enjoy tradition at Serpa Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM. “I am kind of an outdoors person so getting involved with Jeep and RAM is right up my alley,” he says.

Fedele Naccarato has had a long and varied career in media sales, and began his association with the Serpa Automotive Group at its former Avante Mazda dealership in Richmond Hill in 2015. He has, however, an unusual distinction: he first met dealer principal Frank Serpa at Dalt’s Honda, when Serpa was starting his rise in the industry as a technician and advised Fedele on purchasing a vehicle there. “I’ve been buying cars from Frank ever since,” Fedele says. A Seneca College business administration graduate, he enjoys “helping people,” saying “an auto and a house are most people’s biggest investments, and providing the right car at the right price is what I like to do.” Married to Adrienne, and the father of two girls, 23 and 17, Fedele is a sports enthusiast, who has held season tickets to Toronto FC since day one, and also follows Juventus, the popular Turin, Italy football club.

David Liu, who is originally from Sichuan, China, the home of spicy food, graduated from Guelph University in Ontario with a marketing concentration. He’s been a car buff since he was growing up and looks forward to “the challenge of developing his business” at the dealership. In addition to the language from his home province, David also speaks Mandarin and looks forward to conversing in it with our customers. In his spare time, David works out with weights and enhances his cardio fitness.

Merrick Bao became a client relationship manager this year, after living in Shanghai, China, where he was an art dealer before joining the auto industry in Canada. He speaks several languages including Mandarin and Shanghai’s as well as French. He attended Quebec’s Bishop’s University, studying graphic design management. He enjoys “meeting people of all different backgrounds,” and providing the best service for his customers.

Ricky Lo joined us this year, after a career in the insurance field. He earned a Bachelor’s degree at York University in math for commerce and has lived in Hong Kong and Toronto. He is fluent in Cantonese. The father of two, he enjoys water activities, like wake boarding and scuba diving. What Ricky really enjoys about being a client relationship manager is “meeting different kinds of people and assisting them with their needs.”

Marta Dziedzic became assistant manager in the business office in 2017, after nearly a decade in the credit departments of major automobile manufacturers, including three years at Chrysler Financial. If an auto needs to be financed, Marta knows how to get it done. She came to us as a result of working with Tracey Warren, our business office manager in the past, completing our business office’s deep expertise. Marta, a native of Wroclaw, Poland, speaks Polish and enjoys travelling, skiing and hiking in the mountains. Her favourite part of the job is “interacting with people…that’s what it’s all about,” Marta says.

Edison Minoza, our Business Office Manager, has had eight years’ experience with the Chrysler brand, and has across the board experience in many levels of dealer operations, here and in the U.S., where he also ran the business office of a motorcycle dealership, and earned an auto management certificate in California. Originally from Manila, the Philippines, he has experience racing small cars and speaks Tagalog. “Being a business manager presents new challenges every day,” Edison says. “But at the moment when the customer smiles and is happy with his new car purchase, that makes it all worthwhile. It’s a feel good moment.”

Jim Tuckerman has been in the automotive industry since 1974, became a licensed technician in 1980, qualified in both trucks and coaches, and in manager in 1986. He joined the dealership in mid 2016, initially to help with the transition from the previous owners to the Serpa Automotive Group. We are glad that he stayed on to be the Fixed Operations Manager, responsible for overseeing the service, parts and collision centres. He grew up in Richmond Hill, and has three children and two grandchildren. His passion is hockey, having grown up playing it, and now directing the activities of Brampton’s Old Timer Hockey League, which has 14 teams. In terms of his job, Jim likes ‘getting things right.’ He also says customer satisfaction is ‘a big motivator’ for him.

Lucy Bevacqua, our Assistant Service Manager, has been at these premises for more than 15 years, giving her excellent background with our customers over the long term in the new Serpa era at 401 and Kennedy. She started as a receptionist and became a service advisor before being promoted to her present position. Scarborough raised, and currently residing in Woodbridge, she says, “When customers are happy with my service, and I get them in and out efficiently, I get a big thank you,” she says. “That what I like about this job.” She has been married to Michael for 20 years and they have a daughter, 17, and a son, 8. She enjoys reading, working out and shopping. Lucy adds that she is enjoying the “big positive changes in the dealership” and sees how it is growing and changing already “with Frank Serpa guiding us.” us. Ashutosh Jaimini is a Canadian success story. He came to Canada from India just four years ago, and is excited that he has become a Permanent Resident, on his way to soon becoming a Canadian citizen. We are very proud of the career path he has followed at the Serpa Automotive Group, rising to become a junior service advisor at Serpa Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM just this year. Ash, as he is called, started at our old Avante Mazda store as a detailer and then transferred to Serpa BMW as an assistant captain before joining us here at 401 and Kennedy. He “very humbly expresses his sincere gratitude to his mentors Frank Serpa, Stefano Serpa and his family for these accomplishments.” Interestingly, in India, Ash was a dental surgeon but always considered himself a car buff. He says he ‘loves the auto industry and likes talking to people and sharing his knowledge.” In his spare time, he likes dirt biking and swimming and soon will receive his lifeguard’s qualification. Jack Stewart grew up in the auto business before joining Serpa Automotive. His father was involved in fixed operations at another famous brand. He grew up in Scarborough and first worked at the old Dominion Stores, then became a parts specialist at Canadian Tire and that training led him to Serpa Chrysler. A graduate of Malvern Collegiate, he describes himself as a ‘movie geek,’ and Leafs hockey fan. He likes ‘being able to help people out every day’ in his job.

He is married with two daughters and his job satisfaction comes from ‘helping customers get what they need.

Ben Goldsmith, client advisor in the parts division, has been involved with the automotive industry for nearly 16 years, including experience at Canadian Tire and Mr. Lube. He is truly a parts expert and grew up in the area near the dealership. He is an automotive enthusiast, spending his off time working on everything from Dodge pick ups to drag racing vehicles and odd projects with friends. He says he loves the customer contact, and helping them find what they need to get the job done.

Kelly joined the Serpa Collision Centre after heading a major brand’s body shop for three years. Before that he worked in several other body shops, perfecting his craft, after studying fixed operations. He grew up in the Ossington and Dundas area. He follows soccer teams like Toronto FC and Manchester United and others in the English Premier League, when he’s not helping his son learn the game. “No day in a collision centre is ever the same,” he says. “There are always new challenges and more people to help out with big problems.” At Serpa Chrysler Dodge Jeep and RAM, we are not just any Collision Centre, we operate under the motto Respect. Katryna Tanaka joined us in November 2016. She grew up in the York Region area and attended the University of Guelph. She has a background in foodservice at a private golf club, and loves to travel, having toured Europe before joining us. “What I like about my job is the environment,” Katryna says. “I could not ask for better colleagues who make it enjoyable coming into work each day.  My daily tasks provide me the opportunity to grow and be a valuable asset to the company. In turn, this makes me grow as an individual as I am learning a lot here at Serpa Chrysler.”

Shura Jules joined Serpa Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM and SRT in January 2017 and but previously had been with the Serpa Automotive Group for three years at its former Avante Mazda store in Richmond Hill. Shura grew up in the GTA and is also pursuing a career in law at York University. She enjoys travelling and has been to England, Paris, Mexico, Cuba, St. Lucia, and across the U.S. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the cinema, especially “great comedies or action movies.” She speaks French, Spanish and Creole and invites you to say hello the next time you visit the dealership.
